Speedometer quit working and had to jiggle gear shift through the gears to find a position that allows to start. Any ideas as to why the starter not engaging in Park? Could it be tied to the speedometer cable?

I am looking for a supercharger and all that goes with it to return my converted R1 back to its original R2 configuration. It currently has AC but still has all of its r2 attributes such as sealed carburetor, distributor, heads etc.. Would like to buy it all in one place if possible.

Thanks Ron, nothing is easy!

I bought an extra long screwdriver and when I tried to unlock the trunk I found that someone had broken the screwdriver slot and half of it is gone. Back to square one!

I bought this car not even knowing what an R1 or r2 stood for. It was advertised as a non supercharged car and It seemed a good car and I was not disappointed when I got it. I didn't have any historical data on the car but it had Supercharged emblems on it which sparked my curiosity. To make a long story short it was originally an R2 and was converted with AC early in its life. what I have discovered so far makes me wonder how it ever ran. Where and how the square headlights came about is probably never going to be answered. I am on the journey of righting some wrongs that have occurred so bear with me. I think at this point if I can find a complete correct Supercharger and all that goes with it, it will probably be easier to install than correctly converting the R2 to R1 as nothing has been correctly swapped at this point. Thank you all for your patience and understanding!

I did find the tag on the bottom of the distributer it says Prestolite and what I could make of the # was RS40... on the intake is RS2389 and 554641 with a 4 above it. Maybe someone can decipher the #s for me.

Could you put together the complete supercharger parts and consider a swap for the complete AC off of mine. I will photograph what I can and send them to you. I will also need the console facia that would have come with the original R2. I know it is a long shot but it never hurts to ask. Yes it did run rough and didn't start as easily as it should.
Thanks for your help!

I found the answer in my workshop manual ..... finally! Thanks for posting. This is my first Studebaker and I bought it because I have wanted one since I was fourteen years old. It is a nice car and I am determined to bring it back to its original configuration. Thanks again!

Definitely! There is a hard line coming into the front of the carb that been twisted at least two times and I am sure its functionality has also been compromised. I will check the other things today. I tried to open the trunk this AM and the latch feels locked up. That is a new problem! Is there a trunk release that can be reached through the cabin deck entrance? Just curious. I didn't need in the trunk but now that it won't open it's bugging me.

The tag riveted to carb says this is a sealed carburetor
service only per instructions & specifications in Avanti workshop manual.

Thanks! I'll check it tomorrow.

I only have what is currently on the vehicle. What would be the identifier on the carb as to whether it is R1 or R2 specific?

Wanting to remove dealer installed AC from my R2 and install the correct Supercharger which will bring it back to stock. Does anyone have a complete unit for sale?
-
First of all do you still have the supercharger? I need whatever brackets are required and everything else from the blower to the carb. Since it was all removed prior to my ownership and fitted with A/C I don't know what is required.

Speedometer stopped working and car won't start in "P" but will in "N". Could they be related?
-
Here it is a year later is this supercharger still available? Is that brackets and all that goes with it?
-
Thanks!

Is that panel readily available? We are looking at a paint job and I might want to get the headlights sorted at the same time! Weather allowed me to drive it yesterday .... I do love that car!

I took the back seat out today and wallah! There were seat belts installed. I thought I read that 63's only had belts in the front. My car has square headlights and seatbelts and now I am curious. The build sheet says it's a 63, VIN tag matches but I am starting to wonder if it was one of those late 63's that ended up with some 64 parts at the factory. Any ideas out there?
-
Thank you for the info. I am just looking right now as I am not going to install until winter is gone. I still have to remove the AC. Don't know if there are any brackets remaining of the original supercharger.

Looking for a supercharger for my 63 R2. Was swapped out years ago for AC. Would like to get it back to original. Also looking to add power steering. I am soon to be 68 and that manual steering is getting difficult.

Thanks, not the news I wanted to hear!

My 63 Avanti has square Headlamp covers which I would like to swap out for round. Is the body under the headlamps the same under both round and square or was there a body modification going from round 63 to square 64. Would be interested in swapping with someone if in fact they are interchangeable. I am trying to get this R2 back to original.

Thanks! I haven't seen any evidence but I live on a farm and know how destructive they are. Took the breather off of my tractor and it was full of nuts. How they got in there is beyond me!

If I can get it to start the car runs fine but SPEEDO and odometer aren't working so I stopped driving it to get problem solved. With that vote of confidence I am ordering a cable. Thanks
