  1. It was 1985, any one want a try at the bonus questions? John Hull's books and Turning Wheels issues March 1996,April 1996 ,and July 1996, will aid your research. Lou Cote educate, and illuminate the public on post Studebaker Avanti's

  2. The 20 th anniversary car formerly owned by northwesterner Steve Hudson, according to him was returned to Avanti Motors to be converted from automatic to the T 5 transmission. That car now resides in Georgia. I saw it at the 2012 national in South Bend.

  3. Yes the white wires are common grounds, one of them would go to the missing horn. The rubber fuel line should be a metal line that goes up from the pump and comes up near the alternator, look at any chev pu V -8 from the 70 to the mid 80's Lou Cote

  4. One thing that I found on my 1985 was an incorrect sending unit, gauge is a 60 psi unit sending unit was an 80 psi unit. After several tries with S&W, called Dan Booth and got the correct one. The problem with the S&W unit was the height, it was too tall. My 75K 1985 shows 30 psi at freeway speeds, about 1800 rpm at 60. Lou Cote

  5. If you were at St Louis you would have seen the first R-3 R 5089. Others are : R 5237, R 5394 , R 5532 , R 5546 , R 5593 , R 5625 , R 5642 , R 5643 . If you have an AOAI roster you could research this in the numerical listings. 5089 is under restoration and you will see an article in a future Avanti Magazine. 6. If the package shelf in the back window is one flat piece you don't have any access. In any instance you will have to remove the seat back and cushion first, then there is a a large block off plate [glued & screwed] to remove. Only then will you see the tank. When you replace the sending unit also replace all the hoses, for the smaller vent fuel, and gas return also the flex line at the bottom of tank. You want to use "fuel injection" type hose as our alcohol laced fuel will deteriorate normal hoses. Good Luck Lou Cote

  7. For the window motor gear kit , due to time constraints I went with the kit from O' Reillys at a cost of 28.84 plus tax. While out on deliveries today, I stopped at CarQuest the kit with more parts in it,a dust and water shield, was good guy priced at 18.47 incl. tax. The Dorman part number for this kit is 747 - 411. So I bought one as the drivers door motor makes a noise when almost rolled up. Lou Cote :D
