Avanti II's don't carry that much value in the market. Given everything being equal, which it rarely is...a Studebaker Avanti carries more market value.
My '70 Avanti was ordered by John Seaton as well. After some investigation I found that John Seaton was an authorized owner/dealer (or whatever Nate Altman called it) for Avanti Motors. He ordered/owned/sold something like 50-75 Avantis over time, so determining which was a personal car or simply ordered by him for a retail customer is iffy at best. I would think that carries little if any value for the car. It is a neat bit of trivia for the car though.
Value is arguable at best. Some...I'm one of them...believe the power moon roof is a detriment due to problems of water leakage and whether they even still work. Some would value a properly working power moon roof. It all depends on the buyer.
Some of those options, while adding value in 1983, are so commonplace today they're simply expected on cars. I think CB radios today are more an oddity than anything else...kinda like seeing an FM converter in an older car.
To give you an idea on value...after spending several years and lots of money rebuilding my '70 which has been awarded numerous trophies and first place awards at two International SDC and AOAI meets...the collectors insurance company values the car at $27k. That's less than I have invested but still it's cold water in the face.
The free market is very fickle and Avantis have never had much market value outside of our little Avanti community. They have everything going for them...design exclusivity, design pedigree, performance, low production numbers...but the market doesn't care. It is what it is.
Just my opinion. I love the Avanti, but you don't own one for an investment...you own it because you love the car.
Thanks Gunslinger, very interesting about John S. I was looking at $17,000. I plan on driving it to St Louis in August. Maybe I'll get a taker

What is this Avanti worth? Once owned by John Seaton. It is ALL original, paint, interior, 305 motor. It has 39,000 actual miles.
Condition #2
It can be seen on Bob Johnston's resources.
It has AT, AC, PS, PB, PW, PDL, Power moon roof, built in CB radio, Power antenna, push button trunk release and CC
I could send photos of the Interior, engine, outside, all four sides. Just give me a e-mail address.
Thanks

What year was the first Avanti convertible?
-
Thanks Bob & Joe, I ordered the complete set from Myers Studebaker Not knowing what hose and condition of the hoses (recommended by Jon). I can return the hoses I don't use. The 4 hoses came to $160.00
Thanks again guys!!

I have a 83 Avanti with a 305 cu.inch I have a leak in either the high pressure hose or return line hose.
My question, can I purchase these hoses at a local auto store? Thanks

Thanks guys for your feedback. I bled each wheel cylinder until I got fresh Silicone fluid coming out.
So, every thing is good. No harm done.

The wheel would fit Ford, Chrysler, American Motors as well as Studebaker as all used the 4.5" bolt circle. There are some Ford products that used a 5" bolt circle, depending on year and model. GM used different bolt circles.
As far as value goes that's variable and I'd hesitate to give a guess...it can depend on what make tire and its age plus the wheel width.
Thanks Gunslinger. I knew it would fit Ford, but didn't know what else. Are you going to St Louis in August? If so I would like to meet you. I will be driving my 83 Avanti

What vehicles will a 15" 83 Avanti fit on. Ford, Chev, etc.? I have one brand new tire and rim I want to sell. P205/75R/15 Bridgeton
and what is it worth?
-
Thanks Wayne, I meant sludge. I plan on flushing the system at all four wheels and replacing it with Dot 5.
Do you know the shelf life on Dot 5? I have a old bottle from my other Stude's

I recently checked my brake fluid in my 83 Avanti and it was slugs and liquid.
I cleaned the master cylinder and I noticed on the power brake booster it said to use Dot 5 (silicone) the manual says to use Dot 5.
The master cylinder cap said to use Dot 3
Which is correct?

Thanks AvantiFred, mfg and StudeNorm you have all been very helpful. I will be taking it out of storage in two weeks, so I have something to look forward to.

Thanks Fred, where did you get the frost plug and how many should I get?
Thanks

I have a 64 Avanti R1 289. The center left frost plug is seeping. Is that hard to replace?
Thanks

I'm looking for a oil pan for a 64 AvantiR1. The gaskets leak and there's a dent in the area of the drain plug. Jon Myers was telling me they are hard to find, plus expensive and I'm better off fixing the dent and replacing the gaskets
Your thoughts out there.
Thanks

You may also want to remove the speedometer head from the dash and pry the small brass plug (which is located at the top of the stem, just ahead of the threaded area.) Place a drop or two of ATF into the small hole and then re-install that tiny brass plug.....This procedure can do wonders for a 'nervous' speedometer!...Good luck [/quote)
Thanks mfg Much appreciated!!

Thanks Gunslinger. I have put it to bed for a MN winter, but I will do that in the spring.
I used to be under the name "63Avanti R2". That has changed.
-
I'm getting a very noisy sound from the speedo and it jumps around a lot. I was told to take it out of the back of the dash and lubricate it.e
Will this work or not? I purchased a NOS about 1 1/2 years ago. Could it already have gone bad?
