  2. Hi

I have a 71 Avanti 11 which I converted to Turner brakes a number of years ago.I believe I used mustang calipers & chevy s10  4x4 rotors.I have Cragar 30 spoke 15x6 inch wheels now. Is  there any reason that I should not consider returning to Avanti 63-64 wheels? If not, is there a better idea for a 15" steel wheel? Thanks in advance for your help.

  3. Thanks for responding to my question Avanti83.The trans I used had an electronic hookup so we got the adapter. My old speedo cable is the correct length and fits my speedo but does not fit the adaptor. We have been un- able to come up with a cable that fits both ends so far.I was hoping someone else had done this swap and solved the same problem. Thanks again

  4. Recently changed my Borg Warner 3 speed for a GM 700 R transmission in my 1971 Avanti.I'm having difficulty locating a speedometer cable compatable with the 700R and my factory Stewart Warner speedometer.Any help in this matter would be greatly appreciated.....also if anyone has use for the factory 3 speed shifter or any BW trans parts please feel free to contact me......Thanks Bob Suren

  5. :DHi

Corrected my previous post....Sorry for the confusion.....

Installed 700R4 in my 1971Avanti.Need advise on modifying driveshaft & shifter.Would prefer to keep factory shifter but open to other sugestions.ie B&M.On driveshaft can I modify mine to accept 700R4 or do I need to purchase another.Have Dana 44 rear.

    Thanks

  6. Thank -you all.....Now I know I am not alone.I will go with the heat wrap past the fire wall & perhaps cut out parts of the fender wells near the headers.I use the car as a daily driver & am less interested in originality, than comfort & safety.I may also consider the Saturn air dam if these other moves don't solve the problem to my satisfaction.....Thanks again for the great response.

  7. Driving home from a cruise the other nite,I noticed my steering column felt hot.I opened the hood & the heat coming from the compartment almost floored me.The engine temperature was only 170.It was not boiling over.I checked engine temp with a laser heat gun & they all seemed very normal.....so far I have added a reflectant heat blanket to the underside of the hood, purchased from Summit.I also have wrapped the stock cast iron headers with Titanium tape.....I was wondering if any other members have experienced this issue & if they were able to resolve it.I know the Avanti nose design is not conducive to abundant airflow, but ironically I have never experienced engine overheating problems with this car....Thanks in advance.

  8. Thanks for the imput.I went to see this car & with the exception of a leaking (minor) power steering valve & a bad A/C compressor,It is almost perfect.I'm thinking between 13-14K could buy it.Any other coments would be appreciated.I have a gold 71 Avanti ,I paid 7K for 3years ago & have since sunk 4K in it.It doesn't compare with this one.

  9. Hi Guys,

Thanks for all the good advice.Well I got it running on the factory TI...& at least for the timebeing it runs great. In the future I will change to an HEI.Still have a lot of jumper wires to connect permenently,so I better get to it.

  10. Hi Guys,

Thanks....,good advice.....I will change to HEI......The old delcoTI is a neat conversation piece at car shows.Just spent 6 hrs on ,under & inside the Avanti.Replaced battery cables, all wiring to solinoids, checked neutral safety switch, found several burned out grounds, pulled out & checked ignition switch.Turned key & suprisingly it started,It started & ran several times, but occasionally I will turn the ignition & no power,I think something is ng in the switch so I will replace. Thanks for all your advice.

    Regards

    Bob

  11. I recently purchased a 71 Avanti with the Delco transistor ignition.Unfortunately it had an engine fire & a lot of the wiring is toast. Is there any place I can get a scematic for a 71 engine compartment? I've checked most of the usual suspects without any luck.Any info would be appreciated.

    Thanks
