New to the forum

When I painted the body I made a few mistakes, one being removing the gas door. Thought it would be one less problem - wrong. Now I am re-assembling the car and finding out I do not have anyway of attaching the snapped off screws to hold the door to the body. I have removed a protion of the interior fibreglass suround and see where the screws were and a piece of white plastic(?) holding the bracket to the body.

Any help on attaching the door - epoxy ? drywall screws ?

I'm now starting the front brake overhaul and deciding whether to re sleeve my calipers which are in good condition with stainless while there out. or convert to a Taylor system. I'm not planning on using it a lot. I would rather keep it stock as much as possible.

Any suggestions would be appreciated. Also Any recommendations for someone that sleeves the old Bendix.

One more thing, All the Superchargers I see are that lovely Studebaker orange. Mine is black from the factory, like the McCulloch on my Golden hawk. Did the color get changed early on. Mine is 1086.

I don't want to go crazy as car is not going to be a daily driver but it would be nice to be able to listen to something other than talk radio over static. Any suggestions on make, model #. I'm not going to install anything that would require modifying the dash. Also speakers that mate up to existing mounting holes. Thanks

I have a green wire with black tracer that I had bagged years ago when I took the car apart. I wrote on bag, goes from starter solenoid across fire wall and for whatever reason I didn't say where it went. It's a lot longer than needed to go to coil. I wrapped it around the harness along the run. I don't like how it looks if it does go to coil. I think maybe when I was taking the car apart, I wasn't concerned as everything is in a harness. It's a factory wire as it has the 90 degree push on terminal for the solenoid. The other end has an open connector. My R2 doesn't have it. I have seen on a few cars on BAT the wire but can't see where it goes. No mention in shop manual of it. I was thinking maybe it would go to coil, bypassing the resistor for start-up but don't want to assume that. That would only be possible if That terminal on solenoid is momentary, energized when key is in start position. Any help would be appreciated, Thanks

In my previous query about radio upgrade, I asked about a part that sat on top of the old radio and was connected to an under dash harness (NOT to the radio amp output) I have not heard any explanation for the part. Its base is 4.25" square. There is a trim-able pot. as shown in the first picture and the connector to the under dash harness in the third. The only connection to the old radio itself was a ground wire connected to the rear support strap of the radio. Does anyone have any idea what the purpose is of this simple PCB. What might it control/support? (Aside: I have installed a "RetroSound" replacement and it fits like a glove in the old opening....I only have to memorise 18 pages of control options/settings)

I've removed the coin collector on top (where the speaker originally went), as well as the front knobs and support nuts at the front. Does the support bracket for the top tray also need to be removed for better access? I can not see any side connections holding the radio in place. Is there a lower tray or some other mechanism holding it in place? Judging by the workshop manual description, I don't want to remove the dash to get to the back. I am willing to remove the front seats if necessary to get down on the floor and work from underneath. Any hints or pointers in the right direction would be appreciated.

Yes the radio has failed (or faded to almost no sound) and the tape deck has eaten a tape. I will fix or replace as practical.

I certainly like having them on the doors, I'm not looking through the vent window/windshield post and don't need 4' arms to adjust.

I’m in the middle of trying to restore/repaint my 71 Avanti. The center of my front bumper looks good but the ends could stand to be replated. We’re located about 50 miles north or Raleigh NC, there used to be a plater in Richmond Va but I think the EPA chased them away. I wonder if anyone has had their bumper ends plated, what I might expect to pay and if there are any recommendations of who I could send them to. If a service has already replated these parts they might be better able to tell me if they can tackle this project for me.

With the key in the IGN position (engine not running), the evaporator blower and radiator fan run when I turn on the AC. However, once the engine is started the 30a fuse blows after approx 4-5 seconds. All electrical connections to the Delphi compressor have been pulled. I've gone thru at least eight new fuses trying to figure out what's going on. Any suggestions?

I have a 1982 Avanti II with the Blaupunkt CR 3001 Cassette Radio. The control knobs on it were falling off and the insides were just shot. I looked for several days and could not find replacement knobs. This radio has 5mm shafts, instead of the more common 6mm and 3.5mm (Japanese car) ones. I then discovered that GM used a 4.9mm shaft for the rear radio speaker knobs and purchased a pair to modify ($12). The knobs are much deeper and could be used as they were, but I wanted to retain the stock knobs if possible. So I used a Dremel and cut them down until the fit correctly into the Blaupunkt knob and they worked perfectly. The inside of the GM knobs have 4 ears connecting them to the outer ring, so it makes it easy to trim so you can center it into the Blaupunkt knob. Hopefully this will help others!
