<p>
	This week my son and I went to the barn to start our 63/64 Avanti R1. My son , who has been overseas for a dozen years,, is my partner on this more or less time capsule. It has original paint, carpet, and upholstery , as well as mechanics.  All in very fine shape. There was some worry that starting up might be hard, but after connecting the 3EE battery ,after two key turns the Avanti produced a start and even idle.  I guess I just want to express my relief that all is ok.  Daryl

	Hello all. I'm trying to cool off the cabin. I checked the butterfly vents and they are fine. But as I was under the passenger side dash I was looking at the heater box/core area. To the left side is a hole, 2" x 1.25-ish inches and about 4 inches deep. The hole looks intensional, but not factory (super smooth edges, etc.). Was it the place for the filter?

	Greetings!
</p>

<p>
	I'm the new owner of a 1963 Avanti (though I'm a long-time owner of Hawks and Larks). I'm going through the Avanti, changing fluids and generally just familiarizing myself with it.
</p>

<p>
	I'm perplexed by a silver, cylindrical device that's mounted in the engine bay down under the alternator. It has wires running to it, and a fluid line (which may be oil or transmission; I have not yet been able to trace it). There's also an (evidently aftermarket) toggle switch on the dash that seems to energize the mysterious cylinder. It just kind of buzzes when the toggle is thrown. I've attached a photo of the device; photo is taken from under the car. Note the red logo. Does anyone have any idea what this could be? I assume it's NOT original to the car. I can't see any reference to it in the workshop manual.
</p>

<p>
	Thanks for any information you can provide!
</p>

<p>
	Steve

	On my 63 the fiberglass behind glass is faded black paint.   How did these come from the factory?

	Assembling my R2 engine  and following the torque sequence in the factory manual, I am wondering why those 5 bolts have double numbers, the 19 to 23, does<a class="ipsAttachLink ipsAttachLink_image" data-fileext="jpg" data-fileid="8023" href="https://aoai.org/forums/uploads/monthly_2026_05/20260510_180200.jpg.f12be3b9d005a5dea6d646a4d45253cc.jpg" rel=""><img alt="20260510_180200.thumb.jpg.eebac3b0441705859a0ae1e4bc46b24c.jpg" class="ipsImage ipsImage_thumbnailed" data-fileid="8023" data-ratio="133.21" width="563" src="https://aoai.org/forums/uploads/monthly_2026_05/20260510_180200.thumb.jpg.eebac3b0441705859a0ae1e4bc46b24c.jpg" /></a> that mean those bolts should be torque last for the 2nd time?,,,

	Not sure if I should be posting this here or not, I'm trying to identify this engine number, I know it's not an Avanti engine block,  I'm thinking it's a 259 block but not sure what the year is, I do have a chart with Studebaker V8 engine numbers but I can't seem to locate this particular number.
</p>

<p>
	I'm reading it as P75672 if anyone can ID it?,,,
