  6. SO...I was watching a popular car show where a client comes in with an '85' Avanti needing restored. The car was a total mess but did have a radical engine in place. The shop told the owner that the project didn't make sense, but the owner insisted in going ahead. This fool owner had collected a slew of parts at a total tallied cost of $55ish K. His wife was unaware of this and shocked. The bottom line is it cost this individual a 1000 hour labor bill (plus some parts) to get the car finished. So what we can assume is the entire project likely cost this person near $100k. Not added in the mix was the initial cost of buying the vehicle/. This is to me where emotions and desires have gone off the rails horribly. Should a shop out of Moral Obligation refuse a Job like this? (I vote absolutely yes)

  10. After removing the liner from the glove box vanity the name "Lescoa" appeared in script. Is this something original to a 63 car or is this a replacement from a later year car? Thanks for any help, Tom
  11. My daughter and son in law tinker with AI songwriting, so while visiting for the holidays I told her to ask AI to write a song from the perspective of a new '63 Avanti waiting patiently in the showroom for it's new owner. She's a big Toy Story fan so she told it to make it similar to a song in the movie. Here is what it cranked out in about a minute. As you might expect, it failed miserably on the photo attached to the song, so I posted my Avanti below. https://suno.com/song/9f92ace4-33cb-41d8-9aee-34b263ed02ae?sh=MEh30LYupukGKBvI&fbclid=IwY2xjawOayVNleHRuA2FlbQIxMABicmlkETFOR0VpemFQZGxaNmFjZ1Qwc3J0YwZhcHBfaWQQMjIyMDM5MTc4ODIwMDg5MgABHnTBySmWNVzdZY6q04I7gRume-eN-2BWdFFcdP-0GhlQZaCrUnosLX9rSVaQ_aem_Q28XfNXE2LHFENJgDo0j2Q
  12. I’ve never been a fan of hood scoops on Studebaker Avantis… However, the air scoop which the Granatellis added at the front edge of the Due Cento’s hood looks, to me, mean & aggressive…. I like it!!
  13. Is the driveshaft the correct length? If it’s too long and no room for the slip yoke to move forward on the output shaft it will bind when springs compress. I assume it still has a Dana 44?
  14. Last week
  15. I don’t hate the look without the grille, and with all the projects I still have on the table I’m not sure if I will ever get to it. A cheap material might be a good idea if there will a lot of trial and error. The cross bars would be easier, but I like the look of some type of mesh. Our Avantis are always calling! Mike
  16. Also.. most driveshafts have a weight welded on when factory balanced… Is there any evidence on shaft that welded on weight is missing?
  17. You might try checking for excessive up and down and side to side play at driveshaft slip joint where it enters trans tail housing…. The bushing it rides in could be shot …. Is your Avanti a high mileage car?
  18. Here are a couple of photos of my '81's Rear Springs as removed. The general condition of the Rubber pads and Aluminium Wedges is clearly very poor due to age and Corrosion from salty roads. One wedge was nothing but crumbly muck. I'd imagine your vibration could be attributed to something like this. I will be replacing the Wedges with new ones once I have the car assembled again and I can properly measure the Pinion Angle. There was only enough of the 'good' wedge left to measure an approximate 2 degree tangent. The rubber Insulation pads are available from SI- Page 261 of the current catalogue ... Part no 554620. Wedges are not listed, but are available elsewhere on the Web.
  19. ‘Due Cento The Next Generation’ was owned and built for Bonneville speed runs by the late James Lange, who was an extremely talented Studebaker Avanti enthusiast….. RIP James
  20. Regnalbob was confused about the ‘DUE CENTO’ Studebaker Avanti….. The Paxton built Due Cento Avanti, mentioned in the latest issue of AOAI Magazine, was fitted with an experimental Studebaker engine referred to as the ‘R5’ and tested on the Bonneville Salt Flats in 1963…. It would be wonderful, in my opinion, to eventually see Greg Cone’s R5 engine reunited with Richard Bennett’s Due Cento Avanti!
  21. Incorrect Bob…. The name of the turquoise Avanti, #9431, is: DUE CENTO THE NEXT GENERATION Nice try…. Keep swinging kid!!!
  22. There are two Due Cento Avantis. The original Due Cento. The Next Generation Due Cento.
  23. Highly unlikely the problem is converter…. If you have the 400 CI engine, the flex plate could have tossed a balance weight, but you would feel that right away just revving the engine in neutral.
  24. A friend suggested the torque convertor could be out of balance. But everything is smooth reving the engine up high. Any thoughts on this?
  25. Absolutely ! Still a tough job but better done than not. I find I have to split the Tubing longditudinally with a hack saw blade in order to remove it... never had much luck pressing 'em out.
  26. RQB3263/81 .... UP DATE .... TRACK BARS REMOVED ....ONE HAD TO HAVE THE BOLT CUT TWICE ON BOTH SIDES DOWN THRU THE RUBBER BUSHING BY THE BACKING PLATE ...REALLY BAD CONDITION .... CLEANED, PRIMED, PAINTED AND NEW RUBBER BUSHINGS PRESSED THRU WITH LOTSA VASELINE ....ALL NEW GRADE 8 HARDWARE....AND TWO NEW STEEL SPACERS ON MONDAY ...... EXPECTING EASY INSTALL ...HAHAHAHAHA THE REAR SHOCKS I REMOVED ARE IN MY OPINION STILL QUITE SERVICEABLE ... AND ARE FREE TO ANYONE WHO WILL COME TO FLORIDA AND PICK THEM UP CALL BILL 386-466-6434 .....
  27. It has been there since I purchased it. Previous owners took the body off the frame to paint and never finished the car after they put the body back on the frame. That's how I got it. A mystery car.
