Studebaker Avanti 'R2' carburetors rely exclusively on a dual washer & spring setup, which the accelerator pump shaft passes through, to keep fuel from spraying out top of pump shaft hole when the engine is running under supercharger boost pressure.......True?

I'll say FALSE, since I remember a shaft seal installed in the cover also.

Hmmm.....false is correct here, however, not for the reason you stated. (shaft seal IS the above described dual washer & spring setup)

Anyone else know what makes this trivia question false?

There were multiple layers of mylar washers, brass washers, and a spring, and a larger brass retainer.

Yes,..... however, was there also something else involved to alleviate this possible problem BESIDES the 'multi-seal' the accelerator pump shaft passes through?

ANSWER.... Fuel which may be pushed beyond the lower shaft seal is supposed to be (and hopefully!) drawn back into the venturi area of the sealed R2 carburetor.:o
