I've searched the comments for rake & stance but haven't seen anything that gives actual measurements, i.e., pavement (level of course) to highest point in wheel openings.
My recent purchase of a 1963 R2 has me curious as to what the correct stance should be. After 60 years it would be nice to know if the springs and suspension are sagging and to what extent. Don't know what's been replaced by previous owners on the suspension. Thank You Kindly.

Does anyone have any information on the Convertible?
Was it part of the Jerry Ball collection?
Some confusion as to what engine is in this car, i.e, I heard it was a 350 but only 305 were used then.
Any input appreciated as I'm looking for an Avanti convertible.
Thank You

I posted this ad in the 84-91 forum. I've had 3 , Avanti's over the years, one for 26 years which I sold (mistake) and truly miss it. They have all been chrome bumper cars. Never had a convertible and it's time for another Avanti. The BOSS wants a convertible as she gave up her Miata some time ago, so help me out if you can. Since I've never had an Avanti convertible I need the pros/cons of what year to get AND any help finding the right car is appreciated. No asking the wife, $$ waiting, just want the right car. Thank You, Jim in MN. Contact me via email at ashie1@charter.net with Avanti in subject. All emails will be answered. Mike, if you still have my Avanti and are willing to sell it back to me... you have my number. Thanks to all.

OK, I sold my Avanti (owned 26 years) and I truly miss it. The caveat is the BOSS wants an Avanti Convertible. Never had a Convertible as I prefer the chrome bumper cars however I understand as she gave up her Miata and wants a replacement. So, all leads appreciated and any input from you convertible owners appreciated. I'm in the Midwest with cash in hand. The BOSS likes the Avanti Convertible so all is good. Thank You Kindly. Contact me via email with Avanti in subject line at ashie1@charter.net.

What is "correct" size for modern radials on a 1982. I would like to get a little rake as on the original 63/64. The '82 has factory Magnum 500s.
Thank You

I'd like to add fuel injection to my Avanti. Has anyone installed the pump in the gas tank? Looks to be a problem due to stand up position of the tank.

It's time to replace my wore out seats in my 1979 Avanti. Does anyone know what seats will work, i.e., Camaro, Firebird, PT Cruiser etc. Year, make, model will help me. All new recover needs to be done so color not important. Thank You, Jim A

Redoing my 1978 II. Removed side markers and cow catcher. Has 1964 bumpers and grille. Looks good but the original Magnum 500s are pretty bad.
Summit Racing has Magnum 500s, 15 X 6 5 x 4.5 with 4.0" backspace that "should fit". Will these work without a problem?
I like the 500s and want to keep them but "should fit" doesn't mean "exact fit". Any advice appreciated.
Thank You Kindly
Jim

63R2 AT problem: no reverse: Need advice
in 1963-64 Avanti
Posted
My recent purchase of a '63 R2 AT has a problem I need advice/help to diagnose. Running OK, but last time driven I noticed it "spooled" before going into reverse. Took about 5 seconds before it engaged. Car has been sitting for a couple of years before purchase so am addressing leaks etc. Used Type F to make sure fluid in tranny was up to mark when hot as it was leaking tranny fluid pretty bad.
Today, NO reverse. Won't move. I have the shop manual but am confused on checking adjustment for reverse/low band. Of course I don't have the Studebaker tools so what's the correct procedure to use? The manual says USE tool J-5883 on adjustment screw and tighten screw until the wrench "overruns" then back off etc. Never heard that term "overruns" and what does it mean?
I want to try adjustment. The tranny shops in SE MN don't seem to want to talk about working on a '63 Avanti. Please advise.
If you're in SE MN area and know of a reputable tranny shop please let me know.
