This "Christmas" song is based in fact. It's a live version of a song by John McCutcheon. It's my favorite...tell me what you think. http://www.democraticunderground.com/1018264220

Good for you...and well deserved!! Another foot in the door of recognition! The ball, she be rolling! My Avanti has been chosen by my insurance company as its "Ride of the Week".
http://www.americancollectors.com/Collector-Chronicles/My-Cool-Ride/141/
Not a big deal (But I did get a neat T-shirt ) but it gets the Avanti out in front of other collector car owners.
If we want to make Avantis more popular, we need to show them to people.

You may well be right. Though, I will do my best to overcome this inertia. I haven't figured out how yet. All I can say is this. Connecticut owners can expect an email from me along with those in the tri-state area. Get ready!!I miss our annual get togethers at the Denny's on Sprague. As far as monthly meetings, there is no local chapter of AOAI here. There is a Seattle section, and I'll try to put together a event for Eastern Washington - Northern Idaho members. Even with our meetings, there are still several Avantis in town that few ever see.

Like you I just recently received our magazine and roster. I scanned those who owned Avantis in my small state. There are 32 fortunate people. What was surprising to me is that there are three owners in my little burg of less than 12,000 people! Amazing! While at work, my dear wife, (hereby known as D/W). Was looking through the roster, and suggested that all the owners in the state get together on a particular day and drive a particular route. I was thinking July 14,or there abouts. It's the day that Raymond Lowey died. It could be a commemorative thing, it could also be a fund raiser for a charity. It would also raise awareness of the vehicle. I live in Ct. All of you in the area, or those who would like to travel to participate, let me know. I think D/W really has something here! It could grow into a monster!

Yeah...same here in the Northeast!Yesterday was a great day in Northern IL / Southern WI. We took the 76 on a AACA outing and drove up to Cedarburg WI after the AACA event, a 400 mile day. Sadly though, the IL driving season is coming to an end. I guess that's another reason to retire in the South or West, extend the Avanti driving season!

Wasn't the Avanti shown as a car of the future in the movie "Gattaca"? I've never seen it, but I've seen clips I to believe to be from the movie

I got up at 7am this morning. Light snow was falling....
The Avanti nay have had its last drive of the year, I took it for its annual oil change Thursday.
But we usually have a few nice days, last year I was able to take both my cars out on Dec. 1...that's quite an achievement for the roadster.
Even in the snowy months, I'll back it out into the driveway and let it run. I'll go in and out of the garage, to let the "humors" circulate.I got up at 7am this morning. Light snow was falling....

Yes, yes, and by the way...yes!My Avanti goes out everyday. Good for me and good for the car.

Tomorrow is supposed to be a decent day. I have a lot of errands to run. I think I'll drive my baby to do them.
-
You are a lucky guy! I would love to see a picture! Just about every night, I'll just stand there and look at my baby. Sometimes I'll talk to it and my wife will say, "You're talking to a car". It's not just a car...it's my baby! She understands, but she still thinks I'm a little crazy!Likewise here.
My garage is three cars wide and two cars deep. That means my two "toys" are in the back of the garage away from the door. Every time I park my car, I get a great rear 3/4 view of the Avanti. And every time I say..."The Avanti looks nice". My wife is ready to kill me for saying it all the time!
Likewise, the huge brass radiator of my Bearcat reflects on the hood of my car...which has a nice curve and a Mercedes hood ornament sticking up from it. That shot looks worthy of a painting. Every time I see that, I remind myself whatever problems I may have, I'm a lucky guy.

Wow! Quite impressive!!Oh I will. Having owned and built several unique cars, I am very familiar and comfortable with "the fish bowl effect". People just love to gawk at unusual well built cars.
Even had a guy once flag me down and offered to trade his wife for my '65 Corvette coupe. No? How much you take for it then? $45,000? Give me your number. I'll call you. Never heard from that guy. Sold it.
My '68 R/T Charger (1 of 211 built) won a Top 10 at the Mopar Southwest regionals. Proud of that. Sold it.
My 1935 Plymouth Delux 2-door Touring sedan won a "Best Engineered" award at the '92 NSRA Southwest Mini Nationals. Very proud of that. And it won a "Sponsors Pick" at a regional Ronald McDonald House charity show. My favority award. Still own.
And others.

Sorry, but you'll have to cut https://mail.google.com/mail/?shva=1#inbox/141e243290577ef9

D/W and I were having breakfast at the "Blue Colony Diner" in Sandy Hook last Sunday. Here's a pic..https://mail.google.com/mail/?shva=1#inbox/141e243290577ef9 Is this car yours??
-
I'm sure you'll love your car!! Just wait as the heads turn as you drive on by!
-
So beautiful, but just a little too expensive!
-
Driving to work sounded so good, that D/W and I took a little spin! The purring growl of the engine was and is music to my ears!. The more I drove it, the better it performed. I guess my baby is trying to tell me something!
-
Going to drive my baby into work tomorrow. Will be parking in a public lot. A supermarket is the anchor store. I get a little nervous doing it, but it's off-set by the joy of driving. Life is always a game of trade-offs.
-
Unfortunately, both are gone. But they made a difference. Would that we could say the same.
-
I just watched a clip of Jonathan Winters on the "Tonight Show" with Jack Paar. JW is just incredible! Tell me what you think!
-
No, no deeper meaning. Just a continuing appreciation of what I have, of what WE have!
-
Let me say one simple thing. I work hard, I know you do too. When I get home, and press the garage door opener. I walk past by baby, stopping to look. Incredible! Is my baby really mine? The fact that it is, is a constant miracle to me!!

Why?

Right now, we have no marketing objective, that's why we've been having this conversation. Energizing the hearts and minds of Avanti owners is obvious, ask any 'vette owner. They're sure enough proud of their cars! Though there have been millions made and as rare as dirt! What will be accomplished by raising the interest in Avantis? You're kidding me right? You know the history of the car. You know it's rarity. Once this enters the public conscience, and becomes lodged therein, that's when we get the recognition we deserve. Along with the worth it deserves! As far as the timetable, I can't say. I've only been in this conversation for a couple years. I'm sure it'll take time...that doesn't mean we can't give it a hefty boost!! As far as the timetable...there is none. No one can say. For as long as I've been on this site, no one has spoken of this matter. I may be wrong, tell me if I am.What are the defined and measurable marketing objectives? What will be accomplished by energizing owners? What will be accomplished by increasing public awareness of Avantis? What are the next steps? What is the timetable?
I doubt that one can influence AOAI action unless he is a board member. What about the local Avanti chapter?
There are too few forum participants. This is not preaching to the 'choir'. This is whistling in the wind. So let's influence those who hold the purse strings with a PLAN.

Your words are most provocative. I'd like to think about them before I give a response.
