  1. Keith, for the Courtesy light check with either Dave Thibeault or S.Intrntl. I ordered one from one of these distributors. Regarding the schematic, I ordered from Jon Myers a few years ago doing a restoration. Give him a cal later in the week after they return from Hershey.

  2. in response to Silverpate, both companies have history about 20+ years. the first company is in Texas and the second in Ohio. Since there are more than one company in each State that I spoke of, BBB did not help at all.

  3. First, I too understand the wife noticing.............my 64R2 was hit twice after a restoration and then Hurricane Sandy......oh well. Regarding the pump, I have great success with Dave thibeault from Studebaker parts & service, 978-897-3158 or studedave@aol.com His wife is Janet and nice to speak with. Good luck, offer your wife a manicure and pedicure , that often helps...........................................a very little.

  4. Be very careful about a pit, a primary reason many States outlaw them is your are trapped underneath, if fluids drip or pool, the fire hazard is deadly.

Both lifts were advertised as US steel and US made. Problem was with quality of powder coating and both companies refuse any responsibility even though they use their favorite shipper only, and will advise you who to use to install. As I told one owner, you have all the responsibility as you controlled delivery and installation.

I am having an attorney review my photos and letters prior to posting online as I don't want to get sued .

  5. This is a complaint about 2 major suppliers of USA made USA steel 4 post powder coated lifts.

The first lift from Tx arrived very scratched, gouged and nicked on every piece of power coated steel. Months of calls to the owner finally responded with the promise to replace. A few weeks later while lifting a car the lift broke and dropped my classic car 4 ft. Seems the cap on top of the column that has a bolt attached to the S.S. cable broke. After getting my money back and money for the car repair, the installer returned to disassemble and remove the lift. He saw and pointed out that 3 of the 4 caps were only tack welded and not fully welded. He reminded me I was lucky to be alive.

Another lift was ordered from another USA major manufacturer who advertises in every car publication. That lift also arrived with scratches, gouges and nicks on each and every part. Upon installation the installer; referred from the manufacturer as was the shipping company, called the manufacturer and informed him of all the cosmetic damages, photos followed. Again, I was told not my problem and that I should get a can of rustoleum and spray over the damages. Yea sure, I just spent $6000 for a lift, over $400 for delivery and $850 for installation. And I should do what???

My advise; for what it is worth, prior to assembly, check all welds, look for any and all cosmetic damages and refuse delivery after photographing and calling the manufacturer. Sad to say, you have already paid everyone and now its your problem.

  6. regarding the paint color formula, check with Dave Thibeault after the Hershey show. He probably has original formula information.

Regarding tires, I bought new powder coated wheels from him; he orders from CA. They are a bit wider as to accommodate the steel belted Firestones I am using. The rims were pricy ,600 for all 4

I ordered another set for my 63 GT Hawk as that car also has Firestone radials. With a 53+ year car with rims that old, I wanted to feel very safe on the highway cruising at 60 or 80mph depending on my mood.

  7. I just received one from California Car Covers, I went online and also spoke to a rep. I have a 64R2 that is recently painted; took at the Greenwich Concours........Most Outstanding Sports Car 1944-1964" So I was very concerned about what lies against the paint. The cover for the Avanti fits perfectly. To accommodate the antenna they suggest removing the antennae and then making a mark and then punching a hole. After that using their plastic grommet you secure the hole as not to rip anymore. Also, they included an antenna cover. I did not order special "ears" to accommodate the side mirrors; felt that wasn't necessary; a good decision.

I am really happy with this product, pricey but the quality is amazing, they included grommets at the bottom sides by the door to tie down underneath frame

  8. congrats on the car and the work you have done. I have used Dave T. for lots of parts; 73 Avanti 11, 64 R2 and also my 63 Gran Turismo Hawk. He is a fine reference for parts and information. Regarding the clock, I have used CLOCKWORKS twice; for both Avanti's and will use them soon again for the G.T. Hawk.

Heide usually answers the phone and there is no need to push #1 for English. Her number is 800 398 3040. Clockworks is located in Eagle Rive WI. The turnaround is less than 3 weeks. I remember repair to original condition is about $75.00

  9. Joe, very funny the "evil eye" comment. I will use that when describing the other disappointed entrants. I agree that our Avanti ownership has a larger audience. I understand that a gathering of cars were seen at the Amelia Island Concours in Florida

    Thanks for your comment

  10. I have a 64R2 that just won at the Greenwich Ct. Concours. My body shop had to strip and totally repaint after Super Storm Sandy did a number to my beautiful paint; I also took a 1st in Class at another Concours in NJ a few years ago. My mechanic is totally amazing as he also worked and corrected my previous 73 Avanti II. He has corrected and worked my 64 to perfection.

I am located in N.J. Not a bad tow or transfer from your area.

If you want to speak further, contact me.

  11. Hello Greg, I sold my 1973 Avanti II to an enthusiast in Florida years ago. We still email regularly and if you listen, you can hear him chirping the tires into 2nd gear.

    Enjoy and welcome.

  12. congrats!!! I too have previous Concours experiences, 3 years ago I took a first in class and two years ago got 99 out of 100; a muscle car that was a rotisserie restoration-trailer queen, took first. I am going to the Greenwich CT Concours end of this month and hope there are more Studebakers and Avanti's there too.

So, best congrats and enjoy the success; which all of us share
