Milt, also if you use the reproduction mirrors from Studebaker International, it is best to place several flat washers in the bottom of the mirror, between the base of the mirror and the gasket, otherwise the mirror will not tighten securely.

Am I getting anxious without reason? I still haven't gotten the latest issue of the magazine here on the west coast. Am I just suffering from withdrawls? In the 5 years of membership I have been left out twice so far, will this time be "the charm" ;-) ?
Kennie, I hope you received your magazine by now. They were mailed from eastern Pennsylvania on November 19. It has been three weeks so far, so hopefully you have the issue now. You posted your message on Nov. 29, just over a week after mailing. Let me know if you still have not received it.

I hope you keep doing what you are doing with the trivia. There is still countless more trivia about all year and model Avantis, 1963 though 2007. Please keep it up.
And if anyone else has bits of trivia to contribute, please do! I might even use some excepts in Avanti Magazine.

FALSE! Original Jim Lange's Bonneville Avanti number was 943 when he first ran in the 1990s, and later changed the car number to 9431.
-
Thanks, Jeff!! I remember some of those names now.... including recalling Bill Burke telling us at Bonneville about the "Terrible Turkey".
-
The R3 upper control arm inner shafts and its steel bushings were last used on 1952 Studebakers. Beginning in 1952, the shaft was changed to allow use of rubber upper control arm bushings.

true... in some places.... at other points, the bottom plate is smaller in places, and larger in other places.
-
I think it is true. Other parts were used from AMC, including the outside mirrors in the 1970s.

Here are a couple of pictures I received in 2006 when Bill Burke's Avanti was for sale by a man in Colorado who had owned it for a long time, but never raced it. The nose panel is painted in Burke's last incarnation: "California Sunrunner".
He eventually sold the former Burke Avanti to a member in San Diego, who allowed Dan Sallia to prepare the car for Bonneville for his Bucket List entry. Dan repainted the car in its current yellow and purple theme and renamed the Avanti.
It very well could have had the name "Sundance" at an earlier time. This Avanti had numerous paint schemes and engines throughout its life. Please let me know what magazine issue has the other photo withe the "Sundance" name
I ran a couple of these pictures in an article in 2007, Avanti Magazine Winter/Spring Issue #137, page 30.
See the name in a couple of photos I am attaching here.

False. Bill Burke's Avanti was called the Sunrunner..... or more appropriately, the "California Sunrunner"

Charlie: Did you reach someone at Cornerstone Registration, Ltd? The phone number above is correct: 763-420-7829
If you haven't reached them, email Mark Wheeler at mark@cornerstonereg.com
I think that they deposit checks every two weeks.

Andy Granatelli?

No.. Flemming's Avanti was black and a later production 1963 model. The first 7 cars were all white with orange interiors.
-
False. The buzzing is a sign that the throttle pressure rod from the throttle linkage is set too strong.
-
I believe there are round amber turn signals either in the lower edge of the trunk lid, or below the bumper. It's been too long since I last saw it.
-
False... Bunting had the Tom Kellogg-designed two passenger coupe built from an original round headlight 1963 R2 Avanti. You can see it featured as the January cover car in the 2015 Avanti calendar, due out at about the end of this month.
-
False. There were 27 built of the 25th anniversary Avanti coupes. The 12th of these special 25th anniversary cars is featured as the October cover car in the 2015 Avanti calendar, due out at the end of this month.

Right you are, Gunslinger! A true Loewy fan!
-
Loewy had TWO 1963 Avantis. the one still in the U.S., in Los Angeles, has the exhaust cut-outs. The one still in France does not have cut-outs.
-
Mark, wait until you see our feature article by Gunslinger in the next Avanti Magazine. It mails to members on Wednesday next week.

Sorry, I should have further qualified my answer above. While the frames are similar, the Lark floor is more flat, with just a low transmission hump. The Avanti has a much deeper transmission hump and this, more than the frame would interfere with the transmission solenoid.
Disc/Drum?

I say TRUE!! The raybestos brake hose numbers I recently got for a Lark drum brake and Avanti are the same.
