Thanks for the pictures, looks pretty good! Did she do the door panels also, and is that the original dash pad?

Yes,  she did the door panels.   She is getting ready to do door panels for me in the pleated Elk vinyl.

Possibly, but I want my interior to look amazing and have the work done by someone who has experience with the Avanti. If her work is that good, maybe it will be worth the added expense. I can always drop it off and pick it up myself on my trips across the US.

Mark,  her work is amazing and several Avantis have been shown at Amelia concours with interiors done by Barb.   You will not be disappointed.

  3. Mark,   Barb can get the colors. you need for your Avanti and unlike some suppliers, these are not something else that are died.   It would be best to ship the seats and door panels to her,  since installing the sewed material is not really something that most owners can or should do.   She has installed a number of Avanti upholstery.

She also has all the patterns to cut and shape the foam padding under the upholstery. There are no kits for this. She makes all the seat pads and the upholstery/

  4. Thursday night at 6 pm. Eastern, Fox Sports' FS1 channel showed a 50 minute documentary on their NASCAR Race Hub program, "Paula Murphy: Undaunted."    It runs just for 60 minutes and has a number of shots and video of the #8 Avanti, along with the Lark and Hawks at Bonneville.  But much of the program dealt with her racing in many other cars and tracks, Indy, drag racing, sport cars, etc.

Very little actually on the Avanti Bonneville, the Transcontinental runs and Granatelli Avanti related, but Andy and Joe Granatelli are mentioned and shown often.

If you subscribe to Fox Sports FS1 on your cable TV, or the channel's internet streaming service (online or through Apple TV) you can view it there.

It also is viewable on the Fox Sports website through this link below for a 60 minute free preview, unless you already subscribe to the channel's website, or subscribe to see the video without the "free preview" title superimposed at the top.

  5. Price varies, but a full set, both front seat and the back seat is usually around $1,000, maybe $1,200, and depending on the cost of materials.  I don't know if she can ship out of state, but that could get costly, since the seats are heavy and bulky.... both sending them here and return to you.

Thanks, I will call her Monday.

Our upholstery lady at C.A.R.S. in St. Louis is currently doing 6 sets of Avanti upholstery, 2 turquoise, 2 orange, 1 elk and at least one more black. All done and sewn by her and is concours quality.

Not sure where you came up with the "426 Hemi" only info?

My friend's '69 Dodge Daytona has that same brake booster, and it's powered by a 440 Magnum.

the ad posts that it was from Mopar, and I've seen this same booster on other Mopars from the late 1960s to at least early 1970s, Challengers, Chargers and super birds, mostly.

The address is 929 Olympic Blvd, Santa Monica, Ca. The photos were taken about two years ago and the building was vacant but it great condition.

Here is Google street view image of 929 Olympic Blvd as it looks today.  There is no signage on the building, but the rear overhead door was open with the street view photo was taken, and a number of cars can be seen inside.   No telling what it is used for today. But there are a lot of bars in front of the lower floor windows and fencing at the rear.

    I agree.

R-4795 was built in June, 1963 and the Cadillac 429 was not available yet. Production of the 429 started with the 1964 model year.

Some early 1964 Cadillacs still had the 390.

In June, 1963 the Granatellis were still getting the R3 and R4 engines ready for production and possibly making plans for Bonneville.

Although the Granatellis should have had access to a pre-production 429 engine from GM/Cadillac??

Nelson... you may be thinking of the Stude Avanti which was featured in a sixties engine swapping magazine.....It started as an R1, then an R4 was installed, and finally an Oldsmobile 455!

The Avanti that ended up with an Olds 455 has been owned by Jon Myer for a long time.

Thanks Dwight. Not surprising I wouldn’t remember that tube since I sold that dark blue 64 R1 4spd Daytona 49 years ago!  I drove it 25 miles and back to college every day. Wonder how many R4’s were daily drivers?

There was only 1 production car built with an R4 engine, a 1964 Daytona that was featured in the old Car Life magazine from February 1964.  For his story, editor Gene Booth worked several days as a "temporary" Studebaker employee to build the 1964 Daytona, starting in the engine foundry and ending on the body line where he worked to build the car.  Following the story build, he wrote the road test of this R4 Daytona.

I wonder if that coolant extension pipe was a factor in Joe's Avanti's overheating problems? 🤔

Page 22 of this issue explains that the radiator was rotated 90 degrees and straightened up to a vertical plane for better cooling.  So this is what most likely necessitated the copper extension pipe to the lower radiator outlet, as seen in the published photo.

Can you confirm that? According to a previously posted trivia question the only one to fit is for a 69 Daytona with 426 Hemi.

Here is one I bought last year from someone on Marketplace for 60s/70s Mopar.   Exact same booster.
