  1. Hi Gary: Update: The Bell steering unit is All good. I finally got it removed, taken apart, reassembled and installed.. The upper pinch bolt was what hung it up (DUHHHH). Once that was removed and the Zirk fitting was removed the Bell Unit almost fell out into my hands. Euraka! This one has the much desired roller bearing setup. It had been greased but needed a good cleaning and more grease when done. It worked fairly well when first removed, it works very well now. i ordered the extra long zirk fitting from SI just now. That lube location will not be misse
  2. Studegary: i did not know of your response to my questions and only saw it today. Thank you and very sorry for the long delay in thanking you. I bought the 84 about two months ago. Previous owner is in Missouri. He changed the 305 to a 350. All computers and smog controls are disconnected. No cat converters either. Not sure about the frequency of his lube jobs. As you say, the zircs are dry! Best guess....not lubed often enough! My guess is that is why wear and steering drift is present. Rubber bushings at the control arms are cracked and dry. Th
  3. I have a 1984 Avanti with Recaro Seats (Manual Controls). 1984 Owner manual (thank you for that post) says there is a separate owner manual in glove box for more info. on the seat controls. "For additional information see the Seating Booklet in the glove compartment." Anyone have a copy of that booklet? Or, simply a description of the seat controls functions would do fine. Could not find a post to this subject. I will be doing a front end rebuild soon, King pins, bushings, etc. What is the front end running gear in this 1984? Is it same as 1984 Caprice, Monte Carlo? Etc. Comple
  4. Thank you for the welcome. And my apology again for that double posting and cluttering of this very nice forum. Car arrived in good condition last Monday from Missouri. A bit of work on little stuff is underway but nothing major. Thank you all! Blaze
  5. Posted just now Thanks for the info Silverstude. I saw only one other listing on the 1984 Avanti registry with an E in the VIN (and not RQB), Feb 3, 2009 1984 E100 3892 Jerry M. Dillon. All the rest started with RQB. That clears up a lot for me. So, do I substitute RQB when looking up my VIN and registering the car with AOIA? With the PO"s permission per the dealer, I would like to make contact with him. Is there a listing in the Studeb

  7. Hi Sudegary. Thanks for your quick reply. The car is now on the shipping truck heading from MO to CA. This morning I asked the dealer if he recalled a signature on the steering wheel. He said there is one. I asked him if was Duntov. He says he thinks that is right but not certain as the car is on its way to me and he can't look. Gary: I wonder if this new bit of information helps to ID what model, etc. I have? I think I will wait to register with the AOAI until I am more certain about the car details. Previous owner in Missouri is Dale Long. Bonne Terre, MO.
  8. I am a member of Studebaker Driver's Club - Chief Blaze. (1955 President Coupe). I just joined this AOAI Forum i just purchased a 1984 Avanti Coupe, and I want to register the car with AOAI. On the registration form, I must select that it is either a 1984 Touring Coupe or a Blake edition. (I don't think Blake is right but am not sure). The VIN number for my vehicle does not match with the choices listed. My Vin # is 12AAV1232E1003948 My Title Paper shows 1984 Avanti. Vin# plate on the vehicle matches the title papers. Car Fax report from VIN # shows
