  1. 1976 Avanti RQB 2466, 118K miles. Asking $14,800

Nine years spent in restoration of this 1976 Avanti. The work started with complete removal of exterior paint by hand scraping down to the fiberglass and primer. Exterior fittings and trim were taken off. Subfloor boxes (hog troughs) were replaced with galvanized ones from Olympus Avanti and they are of superior quality and fit. Much better than originals. Frame was cleaned, and small plate welded at right rear where crossmember connects. Car completely refinished in original color (Bamboo Cream) by Oscars Body Shop in Falls Church, VA. Transmission rebuilt by TransTech in Fredericksburg, VA. Rebuilt 302 GM engine (serial # V0813ZDH) installed with new motor mounts and transmission mount. Brakes overhauled, and some lines replaced. Fuel tank removed and cleaned then reinstalled with new fuel sender, metal fuel lines, new fuel pump and emission canister. Fuel filler hose extension replaced with new one. All shock absorbers replaced with Gabriel gas shocks. Wheel rims repainted and five new 205X15 radial tires installed. Aluminum radiator cooling hoses and electric radiator cooling fan installed. Original AFB carburetor rebuilt and installed with new filter. New wiper blades installed. Lokar accelerator system, new pedal, and transmission kickdown installed. All interior leather upholstery intact and carpeting replaced with good color match to original. Power windows overhauled and lubricated. Many other small adjustments and fitments done. New steering arms installed to improve steering response. New dual exhaust installed with stainless pipes. I was unable to reconnect AC hoses since no AC is shop here to do it, but new hoses obtained. Also, the front bumper bar removed and grille under nose but those parts, plus other parts will be included with the car. Currently the car is drivable, engine and exhaust sound great. Car looks very nice and attracts attention. I have done all the heavy lifting and brought this Avanti back on the road. You can enjoy, take to the shows and bring it up to the next level if you want to do that. I am 84 years old now and have had a long career as the Washington D.C. Avanti dealer and have greatly enjoyed working with these unique cars. Now it is time to put down the gloves and rest a bit. Feel free to call me to talk. I will be happy to answer your questions.

  2. I have two NOS outer rear body panels (outer clips) from Avanti factory in Youngstown Ohio. These are suitable for rear fender and body repair or could be repurposed for conversion to "Avanti Loveseat". I can separate into left and right half. These are free if you come to pick them up.  Please telephone me at 703-278-9299 to discuss.  Roger

  3. Hi Guys,

Thank you, thank you, thank you! I thought I was nearing the end of electrical problems on this 76 Avanti but the parking lights, etc. were on and I was completely stumped after tracing the wiring for several days. I had completely forgotten the aux light switch, which is unmarked, as you know. In fact, after reading your posts I still could not locate it because I thought it was under the dash, wrong! It was on the horizontal panel by the heater controls. So, finally, the buzzer is off.

Funny how time and age sometimes leads one to forget. Thanks' again.

  4. Thank you "My Avanti"

I do have these diagrams since we had the documents from the days when we sold the cars. Problem is that I can't remember where some of the components were located and which of the wires connect to what. Color codes varied somewhat. For example, Two connectors come out of the main harness at the location of the wiper motor. One of them connects to the motor but the other one does not match up with the distributor connector since they are both female. Then another connector comes off where the washer bottle was on the left of the firewall along the shelf and it extends to the middle of the brake booster and it has a number of connections, including a large white wire which is B+ so I know it connects to something other than the washer. There must have been an intermediate harness that connects to that. Then there is another small harness that comes off near the wiper motor and the wires are a couple of feet long with a single connector and a couple of wire ends. Perhaps that is for the washer module.

I very much appreciate your suggestions and your diagrams. Now I probably need to look at an unmolested car and take some pix if nobody has them. When I finish the project I will post pictures since this is bound to come up in the future.

  5. Hi Members,

If any of you have an Avanti II with the 400 engine I need a full set of pictures of the engine compartment.

I am restoring a 1976 Avanti II which had all the engine compartment wires disconnected and not labeled so I need to see where what is connected to what. Please help if you are able.

  6. There was a change in the exhaust routing because the cars in the 1976 range split the pipes after the X member and I would like to maintain that arrangement if I can. The question is where was the muffler, just behind the X member on the right of the driveshaft or under the trunk like the '76 Camaro?. I do recall that some of the cars had mufflers under the trunk area but don't remember which ones. Straight duals w/o cats probably won't work here in VA, especially if the car gets state inspection.

  7. I am getting my 76 Avanti back on the road. I have part of the exhaust system installed up to the catalytic converter outlet pipe that goes through the hole in the frame but I don't remember where the system splits from there and where the muffler goes. I am trying to keep the system stock. Any information would be welcome.
